I was born six years after the end of World War ll.

I was two years old when Stalin died, ten years old when the Berlin Wall was constucted and eleven during the Cuban missile crises. I am a child of the Cold War.

These portraits were made during six trips to the Perm region of Russia near the foothills of the Ural mountains. The photographs document my encounters with the people of Russia, yesterday's enemies.
